K-12 Schools FAQ
1. If we are not a K-12 school, can we participate? Yes. “K-12” is being used as a broad term for all schools – elementary, middle, or high schools. We have all participating. Mostly public and a few private.
2. Is there a cost associated? Our intent is to have one partner SUNY college sponsor and pay for each K-12 school to participate. This would include production of designs, jerseys, educational cards, and the edited video. We also produce mosaic kits for hands-on educational art building but ask for $500 for our cost of such kit. This is a four-color portrait of your icon of namesake and allows 49 tiles to be painted. It can be set up as an activity in a lobby or classroom. Purchase of mosaic kits are 100% optional.
3. When must we confirm? We hope to have all schools and partner colleges confirmed by December 15 so we may begin designs and jersey production. Earlier is better so that we can begin producing jerseys early.
4. May we choose our partner SUNY? We will be allowing the SUNY schools to pick their partner school – which might be based on region or their enthusiasm for your namesake.
5. Could we order more jerseys? We are tight on production time, so we are going to limit the jerseys to 10 per school (3 S, 3 M, 2L, 1 XL, 1 XXL). After March, we will put you in contact with our printer if you would like to discuss additional production runs at your cost. Remember to set aside at least two shirts for your student spokespeople (more on that below).
6. What are the steps and “work” that needs to be done?
· December 15 (or sooner please) – Confirm participating schools and any school colors (for design) Begin production on first jerseys
· December 19 – Have all participating SUNY schools paired with K-12 schools. We will announce as partnerships are made.
· January – Jerseys and trading cards being produced.
· January 5 – Any mosaic kit orders placed.
· February 4 – All jersey and trading cards mailed / please send us image of your school.
· February 15 – Filming of W.E.Draft from 10am-12pm** (choose representatives by February 1)
· March 1-31, each day assigned to an icon. We ask each school to creatively pay tribute on their day and post to #WEdraft, #WEdraft2022 and #ArtForce5
· March 11 – International Women’s Day (video Released on Social Media)
· April 1 – Final daily tribute (for Niagara Street school being renamed Bloneva Bond and announce $500 winner of best of the daily post)
7. Could you describe the February 15 draft event?
· Two student representatives from each K-12 school and one from each college (about 100 in the Zoom)
· Special backgrounds will be e-mailed with the portrait of the icon hovering over the image of the school
· K-12 students will announce their school name, sponsor, and then the icons name
· “Monroe Community College and Rochester’s School 3 honor our namesake Dr. Alice Holloway Young”
· The college student read a two-sentence bio (which is also on trading cards.
· Nothing is live and we can take many turns getting the lines right.
SUNY / CUNY FAQ
1. Is there a cost associated? Yes. Each partner school is asked to contribute $1,500 for production of designs, jerseys, educational cards, and the edited video. We also produce mosaic kits for hands-on educational art building but ask for $500 for our cost of such kit. Some generous colleges have already committed $2500 so they can treat their K-12 partner to a kit as well. Purchase of mosaic kits are 100% optional.
2. Why should we partner? Our most central mission is an educational experience for the students involved. We also will demonstrate the collective power of NYS education. By pairing SUNY’s together as a force with K-12 schools, we create an exciting and grassroots Women’s History collaboration unseen by any other state. Also, we are fostering a relationship between a college and K-12 school which can serve to build college aspirations and recruiting pipelines. Lastly, it is just a prideful way to honor these icons with cool jerseys.
3. IS CUNY involved? Not at this time but will be extending an invitation to CUNY if sponsor spaces are unfilled.
4. When must we confirm? We hope to have all schools and partner colleges confirmed by December 15 so we may begin designs and jersey production. Earlier is better so that we can begin producing jerseys early.
5. May we choose our partner K-12 school? Yes, first come, first choice -we recommend choosing based on region or their enthusiasm for your namesake.
